According to Hindu mythology, Khatu Shyam Baba was the son of Barbareek, who had offered his head in sacrifice to Lord Krishna during the Kurukshetra War. As a result, Lord Krishna granted him a boon that he would be worshipped as a deity in Kali Yuga (the present age), and anyone who sought his help with a pure heart would be granted their wish.

The temple dedicated to Khatu Shyam Baba is located in the town of Khatu in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. It is believed to be over 2000 years old and is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in India. Devotees come from far and wide to seek blessings and fulfill their wishes.
The main festival celebrated at the Khatu Shyam Baba temple is Phalgun Mela, which takes place on the 12th day of the dark fortnight of Phalguna (February/March). During this festival, the idol of Khatu Shyam Baba is taken out in a grand procession, and devotees sing and dance in his honor.
